1. Resolution from the
Council Meeting of June 24, 2014 with respect to the declaration of a potential vacancy of a Ward seat.

Approve that: WHEREAS by Bill No. 335, Joni Baechler, Councillor Ward 5, was appointed to the office of Mayor pursuant to section 263(1) of the Municipal Act, 2001; AND WHEREAS section 259(1)(e) of the Municipal Act, 2001 provides that the office of a member of council of a municipality becomes vacant if the member is appointed or elected to fill any vacancy in any other office on the same council; BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED THAT: The office of Councillor Ward 5 BE DECLARED vacant in accordance with section 262 of the Municipal Act, 2001, c.25.

Approve that the following actions be taken with respect to the filling of the Ward 5 vacancy: a) Council Members each BE INVITED to bring forward a nomination to fill the vacant Ward 5 Councillor position, to the special Council meeting scheduled for 1 PM, June 25, 2014; it being noted that any such nominated person must attend the City Clerk’s Office prior to 11 AM, on June 25, 2014, in order to confirm their eligibility and be certified as an eligible candidate; and, b) the City Clerk BE DIRECTED to bring forward, to the June 25, 2014 Council meeting, a process for filling the vacancy which incorporates a) above, into a similar nomination process as was followed for the filling of the vacancy in the Office of Mayor.
